Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) was the last Queen of France before the French Revolution. Born an Archduchess of Austria, she married Louis-Auguste, the future Louis XVI of France, at the age of 14. Her extravagant lifestyle and perceived indifference to the plight of the French people made her a symbol of the excesses of the monarchy. She was executed by guillotine in 1793.
